Workmanship guarantee, in writing, on every job.
If something we installed fails because of how we installed it, we come back and sort it. No arguments, no callout fee for warranty visits, no fine print designed to wriggle out of it.
The plain-English version
Lifetime workmanship guarantee on every installation we do. For as long as you own the property and haven't modified the work, if any joint, fitting or pipework we installed fails because of our workmanship, we come back and fix it at no cost. Parts are covered separately by their manufacturer warranty — we help you claim those too.
Why I offer a lifetime workmanship guarantee
I'm Jieye. I've been on the tools for 13 years experience and every job I do gets the same standard, because every job has my name on it. A leak from a joint I made six months ago is the same problem to me as a leak from a joint I made this morning — I did it, I fix it.
Most plumbers in QLD offer 12 months as the bare minimum (and a few only go to 6 months on labour, which I think is rubbish). The reason I go lifetime is simple: if a copper joint or a PEX crimp is going to fail because of bad workmanship, it fails in the first month — not year 7. So a 12-month guarantee is really only ever being used for the first 4 weeks anyway. Going lifetime just means I have to do the job right the first time. Which I do.
What the workmanship guarantee covers
- Leaks from any joint, solder, crimp or thread that we made
- Fixtures we installed that come loose or fail because of how we fitted them
- Gas joints we made, full pressure-test certified at install
- Drainage falls, vent connections and waste pipework we ran
- Hot water unit installs, pipework and isolation valves we fitted
- Tapware and mixer installs (excluding the cartridge itself, which is covered by the manufacturer)
- Pipe relining we performed, sealing failure at our lining ends or transitions
What it doesn't cover
I'd rather be straight with you about the limits than have you find out the hard way. A workmanship guarantee covers what I did with my hands. It doesn't cover acts of god, parts failing on their own, or what happens after I leave the property.
- —Parts and appliances failing inside their manufacturer warranty (we help you claim — see below)
- —Damage caused by tree roots, ground movement, council main pressure surges or floods
- —Fixtures or pipework you supplied yourself that we fitted on a 'supply-only-by-customer' basis
- —Pre-existing pipework we did not install or touch on the job
- —Damage from customer modification — drilling into pipes, DIY tap swaps, putting wipes down the drain
- —Wear-and-tear consumables: tap washers, jumper valves, cistern flush valves outside normal life
- —Issues caused by another trade after we left (e.g. a tiler chipping a pipe behind tile)
Manufacturer warranties — we pass them through
Anything we install on your job comes with the manufacturer's warranty as well as our workmanship cover. Hot water units, tapware, toilets, mixers — the manufacturer stands behind the part, we stand behind the install. If a unit fails inside the manufacturer warranty period, we handle the claim for you: lodge it, get the replacement, fit it. You're not stuck on hold with Rinnai for 40 minutes.

QBCC Home Warranty (Statutory Insurance)
For any residential plumbing or gas work over $3,300 (including GST), Queensland law requires the contractor to pay a premium into the QBCC Home Warranty Scheme — and you, the homeowner, get the cover automatically. It's not optional and there's nothing for you to fill in.
What it covers:
- Non-completion cover — if the contractor dies, becomes insolvent or disappears mid-job, the scheme pays to have another licensed plumber finish the work.
- Defective work cover — defects in the workmanship that the contractor refuses (or is unable) to come back and rectify. Cover usually runs 6 years for structural defects, 12 months for non-structural.
- Subsidence cover — limited cover where the work fails because of subsidence of the building.
For a typical job over the $3,300 threshold, you should receive a Notice of Cover from QBCC by post within a few weeks of us starting. Keep it with your house paperwork. You can also verify any job we've done for you using the QBCC online licence search.
$20M Public Liability Insurance
Hills Plumbing & Gas carries $20 million in public liability cover — the industry standard for licensed plumbers in Queensland. This is the cover that protects you if something goes wrong on the job: a burst flexi hose floods the apartment below yours, a gas leak damages the property, a tile gets cracked during access. It's separate from the workmanship guarantee — workmanship covers the fix; public liability covers the damage caused.
Why this matters: if you hire an unlicensed plumber and they cause $80,000 of water damage to your home, your own home insurer may decline the claim on the basis that you used an unlicensed trade. Hiring licensed and insured is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy.
We can email you our current Certificate of Currency anytime — just ask. Builders, strata managers and real estate agents request it routinely and we're used to providing it within the day.
Workers' compensation
We carry WorkCover Queensland cover. If a worker is injured on your property during a job, WorkCover handles it — not your home insurance, not you personally. Again, this is one of those things people don't think about until an unlicensed handyman falls off a ladder in their garage.
If something goes wrong — what to do
- 1Ring me first — direct line, not voicemailCall 0472 657 042. Most issues we can either diagnose over the phone or get a technician back the same day. Skip the email and SMS for warranty claims — the phone is the fastest path.
- 2Tell me what happened and whenDate of the original job, what's leaking or not working now, any photos you can text through. The more detail, the faster I can get the right parts on the truck for the return visit.
- 3We'll be back within 24 hoursFor warranty work, we book the return visit within 24 hours of your call (business hours) and turn up with the parts. No callout fee for warranty visits. No invoice if it's something we did.
- 4Documented fix, every timeWe log every warranty callout against the original job. You get a written record of what was rectified, so if a property changes hands the history is clean.
If you're still not satisfied
I want to fix the problem myself — that's the whole point of a guarantee. But you also have rights under the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018 (Qld) and Queensland consumer law. If after a fair go we can't resolve it, the QBCC runs a free dispute resolution service for residential plumbing and gas work. They're at qbcc.qld.gov.au. I've been doing this a long time and never had it go that far — but you should know the option is there.
